Visiting Artist Lecture - Daniel T. Beck

Daniel T. Beck earned a B.A. in Studio Art/Art History from the University of Georgia, where he focused on metal smithing and medieval Christian architecture. He is currently the Iron Studio
Coordinator at Penland School of Crafts in the mountains of western North Carolina. Daniel has a diverse background/interest in materials, mostly working with steel as a base. He has exhibited
mainly in North Carolina including the Cameron Art Museum (Wilmington, NC) and has several public works in Asheville and Spruce Pine.

The Hastings College Department of Visual Arts will be hosting visiting artist Daniel T. Beck from February 20th-23rd. In addition to being a working artist, Beck is the Iron Studio Coordinator at the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. His work investigates the themes of home, personal history, memory, and place. During his time on campus, Beck will be producing his own artworks while working alongside students in the sculpture studios. In addition, he will be conducting a design workshop in Aaron Badham's Metal Sculpture class. This will encompass the conception of major ideas and their relation to process as well as basic drafting techniques. Beck will be giving a public lecture of his work in the Wilson Auditorium on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 pm.
