The Green Fling

  • Central Community College 550 South Technical Boulevard Hastings, NE, 68901 United States (map)

Spring into Spring and join us at the Green Fling!
The event planning students at Central Community College-Hastings have grown the Green Fling from the ground up. They’re eager to share the fruits of their labor with the public, who is invited to this April 22 event in the Dawson Gym.
The doors will open at 9 a.m., but the real action doesn’t start until 10 a.m. when attendees can learn about a wide range of topics from exhibitors and presenters such as Nebraska Mushroom, Master Gardener’s, Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, CCC’s beekeeping group, local restaurant owners and farmer’s market vendors. They’ll also be able to buy mason jar meals and pizza made with mushrooms from Nebraska Mushroom
The keynote speaker will be Jen Rosenthal who will discuss the growth of her business, Planted Chicago, and how she has sprouted urban gardens all over rooftops and inside the restaurants across Chicago. She’ll also be holding a workshop on how to grow microgreens.
Other activities will include a cooking competition between graduates of the CCC culinary arts program and entertainment by the Root Marm Chicken Farm Jug Band, a whimsical folk music college group from the Lincoln area.
All events are free, and families are welcome. The day’s schedule is as follows:
-- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Exhibitors, presenters and games.
-- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mason jar meals and mushroom pizza.
-- 1 to 3 p.m., Workshops on how to set up a beehive, create a bloom box, and grow your own microgreens.
-- 3 to 7 p.m., Culinary Cooking Competition and musical entertainment.
